Some have expressed an interest in the process of creating a painting. I shot pictures in stages of this one. Disclaimer...I'm a student. I have no idea if my steps are a good idea or the correct way...it just works for me (at least...in some cases anyway).

Start with a sketch. I'm strictly an amatueur...but I'm learning. I'm really pleased with how well she came out, though her breast is still too big here (Gawd, I never thought I'd hear myself say that!) I'll correct that and some other minor lines as I go along.

Here I did some rough undershading...mostly washes. Watercolor is translucent, so one technique is to shade from underneath. Because it's translucent, mistakes really can't be painted over. Makes it rough sometimes!

Some more undershading and some cleanup here.

The top layer, and some more work on the hair.

This is done. I'm just going to add a display frame in Photoshop. Everything looks better with a matte.

Here I added the frame in photoshop. I should note, I do not digitally manipulate my paintings or make corrections to them other than correcting the color from the photo so it matches (as close as possible) the painting, AND I add a frame just for the heck of it. If I ever edit the actual painting I will note it on the display page. I'm still toying with the possibility of adding a basic background...

This is a digital addition of a proposed background. Just playing to see if I like it...see, she came out nice and I don't want to ruin her. If I decide I like this, I'll paint it on the paper. What do y'all think?

Oh, yeah...and here's a cute animated gif with the stages of the painting in it... Celebrate, the animated gif (864k) <--clicky clicky
