Life Drawing Class

Main Gallery

In the pursuit of improving my visual art skills, I've embarked on a "Life Drawing" class at the Bonny Studio. Basically, this means drawing the human form in all it's glory.

This is a difficult thing to do, as our minds already "know" what humans and their parts "look" like and will inevitably lead us to draw things that don't work at all in conveying what we are actually seeing. A "disconnect" is required...so that we can view the body as a construction of shapes and build it on the underlying anatomy...it's a facinating process. Shading skills come heavily into play...another area I need a lot of work in.

Anyway, I'm terrible at it, so I started a class. Exciting and fun stuff. I can see improvement in every drawing! Again, I'm putting them all here so we can view the progress...I know they aren't good...I'm learning, remember? When I get good...or at least acceptable drawings, I'll include them in my main galleries. Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome.

Ahh...note...some of these are very light and/or on newsprint...scratch drawings...fairly light and particularly difficult to get a clean digital image of...I'll be working on improving that process along with my drawing skills...

I'm even posting the cruddiest ones so I can view my progress...My main goals here are to get lots of practice, and work my way into drawing the things I imagine without specific visual references, and in my "style", whatever that may turn out to be.

Basically, I figure that if I can draw the human figure readily (a difficult and complex construction), then I can draw anything. They are posted here so I can easily view the progress and for any reader interest in this process. They are grouped by class session...with the latest class at the top.
