Things change out here...fast!

Well, I'm stuck�for the moment anyway. The winds came up last night and fanned a big forest fire north of me�between me and Watson Lake, which is right on the border of the Yukon Territory and is really where all the choices for routes start.

They have closed the highway. All northbound traffic has been stopped at Fort Nelson. Since I was already north of there (at Llard Hot Springs) I can stay where I am at or go south. If I go south I cannot move north again until the road is opened. Even here, we have been put on evacuation notice. The bike is full of gas, and I can pack her in less then 5 minutes. They've no idea if the road will open anytime soon. The winds are still roaring, the fire has crowned, and is to the point of generating it's own weather.

It is over 4-day ride to go around. If the road is not open tomorrow�I guess I'll get started. The problem is that the "go around" of something more than 1600 miles, comes out at Watson Lake, which is less than 100 miles from me. Then it's three days or so to Alaska still. The fire is about halfway between here and there, and there is no telling where it will leap next. Should I make the "go around", there is a very strong possibility the road will be closed and I won't be able to reach Fort Watson at all.

I could wait it out-they will open the road eventually, as it is a very important route-but I will soon run out of time.

I feel the need to move�but there is nowhere to move to.

Ah, well�there's worse places to be stuck. I think I'll go soak in the hot springs.
